Description
Synthetic linear analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Binds primarily to MC1R on melanocytes to stimulate eumelanin production. The drug Afamelanotide (Scenesse) is an MT-1 analogue that is FDA-approved for erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). Lower sexual side effects than MT-2.

Side Effects:
Nausea (dose-dependent); flushing; fatigue/tiredness; injection site reactions; spontaneous erections (less frequent than MT-2); potential darkening of existing moles/nevi (monitor); headache; potential risk of melanoma in atypical nevi (theoretical)
